Green Man, 2004/2010

Lois Weinberger is working on a network, devoting his attention to peripheral areas and questioning all sorts of hierarchies. He sees himself as a field worker and started in the early 1970´s with ethno-poetical works, which are the basis for an artistic debate - developed over some decades - concerning standard social behaviour in both natural space and that of civilization. Ruderal plants involved in all areas of life, are initial and orientation point for notes, drawings, photographs, objects, texts, films as well as big projects in public space

1991-92 Weinberger created the WILD CUBE - a rib steel enclosure, grown over with spontaneous vegetation - without human intervention - RUDERAL SOCIETY - a gap in the urban.
At the same time Weinberger started with subversive plant transfers in foreign areas in cities as well as in landscape spaces.

1993 BURNING and WALKING, in summer during the festival time Weinberger scarified the fore court asphalt of the Szene Salzburg and left this enclosed piece of 8 x 8 meters by it´s own.

1997 this work was reinstalled at the documenta X / car park Kulturbahnhof and 1998 in the City of Tokyo. Also at the documenta X Lois Weinberger planted neophytes from South-and Southeast Europe on a closed railway track of 100 meters which became a metaphor for the migration prozesses of our times and furthermore. Weinberger´s documenta works where worldwide attended and play a key role in the recent discours about the relationship between art and nature.

Numerous exhibitions in renowned international art institutions, museums, works in public space, awards, lectures and guest professorships since the late 1990"s. 2009 Lois Weinberger was invited together with his wife Franziska Weinberger to the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennial.
