Roof Garden, Wiener Stadt - und Landesbibliothek, Cityhall Vienna 2005
The new building is topped by a concrete surface into which a typeface has been set that has been formed by nature. The form of the structure has been copied from the passengeways of the spuce engraver (lps typographus). These passages / pathways can be thought of as extending beyond the roof garden - in association with the archive of books found below and into the urban areas - all the way to a lively / porous exchange between natural and cultural developments. In the "drawing" - the channels set into the concrete - have been planted with groundcover succulents, which since the Middle Ages have been attested as having a protective function "for the roof". photography: Jörg Auzinger ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() photography: Paris Tsitsos |
